Find Time For Daily Meditation

"Meditation is a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness." - Wikipedia

In our world of work, schedules, deadlines and extreme high stress, it's comforting to know there is a practice that can get you away, if even for a few minutes, and then bring you back refreshed and ready to take it all on again. Yes, it is the amazing practice of meditation. The practice of choice to bring you into a state of deep peace and clarity of mind.

Daily meditation is a wonderful way to bring about positive change because it forces you to slow down and focus on the present moment. Think of it as a form of mind control or exercise. Learning to incorporate a quietness and peace to our lives is important in stressful times. Once mastered, it will absolutely bring a calmness and serenity that you can't get any other way.

When you start incorporating daily meditation on a regular basis, you will become more centered and your life will flow more easily.

A lot of people think of meditating as a long, drawn out process that takes a lot of time and concentration. Or that you have to live on top of a mountain, wear a long robe and sing "Ohm" for hours on end. Not so.

You can meditate in intervals as little as three minutes. The trick is to find a secluded place so you can quiet your mind. Even if you have to go into the bathroom and lock the door!

Many people use different types of meditation to relieve stress. While there are many techniques to choose from, they are all effective and will leave you refreshed and ready to tackle your daily challenges.

Try The Following Mini-Meditation:

Sit quietly somewhere where you will not be disturbed. Turn off the phone, television or anything else that is distracting.

Close your eyes and begin to breathe in and out through your nose. Concentrate on your breath. Feel the rise and fall of your chest, and be aware of the breath going in and out of your nose. Keep concentrating on your breath. When your mind starts to wander, (and it will), just notice it, and then gently bring your focus back to your breath. Doing this forces your mind into focusing on the present moment, which in turn quiets all the chatter in your head. You only need to do this for about three minutes. Of course you can meditate longer if you wish. When you're finished, you'll be amazed at how relaxed and centered you feel.

This exercise helps us live in the present moment or what some call "the now". Living in the now means appreciating and living in each moment that is given, instead of pining over the past or worrying about the future.

The more you practice living in this state, the more centered and relaxed you'll feel, thus increasing your ability to accomplish your goals.

This exercise is simple to master. The benefits of daily meditation can bring amazing change to your life!

Try to incorporate relaxation techniques on a daily basis.

Take A Deep Breath

When is the last time you took a slow, deep breath? It is easy to forget when we have so many other things to remember! When we are under stress we tend to breathe more shallow, thus decreasing our oxygen levels. This can lead to low energy, brain-fog and irritability. One of the many benefits of daily meditation is it forces you to breathe deeply, therefore giving your body the oxygen it needs to function fully.

Take a moment while you're thinking about it and take 2 or 3 deep, cleansing breaths. Feel more energized?

Don't Have Time?

We tend to give our time and energy to those who surround us, but what about making time for ourselves? Let's face it, most of us burn the candle at both ends most of the time. Committing yourself to a change, no matter how small, is better than not doing anything. Pretty much ANYONE can find 3-5 minutes a day for meditating. Slowly, you can work up to 10, and then 15 minutes. You may have to prioritize a little, but it's for a good cause, right? You're making positive changes!

Taking care of and nurturing yourself is important because you can only ignore and work yourself to death for so long. It will catch up to you and when it does you will have nothing left to give.

Nourishing yourself through daily meditation will not only restore energy and vitality to your physical life, but it will also bring a renewed sense of peace and calm to you mentally, emotionally and spiritually. With these reservoirs filled, you will be more able to function at full capacity for the rest of society.

Different Types Of Daily Meditation

You don't have to be confined to a sitting position to get clarity. You can meditate while doing many of your daily activities.

Walking, for example, is an ideal way to relax.

While taking your walk, begin to notice your breath, and then become aware of the trees and flowers. As you go along, listen to the birds chirping, watch the bees collect their nectar, feel the wind on your face, and just appreciate each step, all the while staying in the moment.

Learning to consciously relax during any activity brings peace of mind to a hectic world.

The purpose of focusing on specific things is to train our brain to respond to our commands. Many times it may feel that our thoughts are taking control, that we don't have any power over them or what might pop into our heads at any given moment. Daily meditation changes this by putting us back in control. Our brain needs exercise just like the rest of our body. If we train it well, it will respond to what we want, to the thoughts we want.
