Concentration For Thought
"Concentration is the secret of strength." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
In our quest for fulfilled goals and desires, it stands to reason that anything we concentrate on will become strong. When we are
busy our minds get overloaded to where every thought feels fleeting. Only when we zone in and focus on a specific target do things
start to change and get done.
Anything we want to achieve requires a dedicated focus toward it.
For example: Think of using a magnifying glass on a piece of wood to start a fire. If the focused light is too large, the goal
will not be achieved or at best take a very long time. The tighter and smaller and more focused the light becomes, the greater
the chance of succeeding. More focus equals more energy and more energy produces more heat. Pretty soon, bingo! The fire
ignites. But how intense did that focus have to be to achieve victory?
Applying concentration in any area of life will multiply its success rate. Whether you're focusing on an important test, running
a marathon, cooking dinner or building a home, it all requires the dedication to succeed.
It is very important to realize the impact of strengenthing this power within. Increasing and focusing on this power will bring
us the sense of mental discipline that is needed to accomplish the greatest of things. That which we know we are worth.
By developing this sense of focus we will empower ourselves to accomplish whatever we desire. Some of the benefits of
doing this include:
- Greater ability to achieve desired goals
- Increased focus
- Better self-confidence
- Greater inner strength
- A more positive outlook
- Better control over thoughts
- Inner peace
- Success after success...
A great way of developing this power is through the practice of
meditation
. This method quiets the mind and forces
concentration, thus strengthening it.
There are various exercises you can perform to help develop this skill. Remember, your mind strays easily and so to
strengthen it, you will have to challenge it.
You are in control of your mind, it does not control you. Like any part of your body, if
if you want to see improvement, it will require the work.
The following exercises will help sharpen your focus:
Exercise #1: Eat a meal with your non-dominant hand.
Exercise #2: Count backward from 100 to 1.
Exercise #3: Say the alphabet backwards.
Exercise #4: Memorize a song and sing it.
Exercise #5: Figure out a math problem without writing it down.
Exercise #6: Play a brain game like Memory or Sudoku.
Exercise #8: Write your name backwards, with eyes closed and then with your non-dominant hand.
Exercise #9: Take a different route to work.
Exercise: #10: Do anything you want differently than the day before.
Any time you change things up, it will challenge your brain. That is the goal, to challenge. Any time your brain gets exercise,
you are developing your concentration, so use your imagination and have fun!
